Positano bites deep.

All it takes is just one…

summer evening watching the sun gracefully dance off the shimmering sea before slipping behind the jagged Lattari Mountains for the words of John Steinbeck to ring true in your soul.

In the summer of 2019, I returned to Positano for the second time in two years. Having spent my prior trip at what has since become my favorite hotel in the world, Il San Pietro, I was curious to see just how much the beloved property contributed to my newfound love for this charming cliffside village. Would it be as magical of an experience staying somewhere else? However, knowing my mom's excellent taste and time spent planning this family trip, I knew whichever villa she had chosen would be noteworthy; but, then I heard the name Sersale, and the ears of this hotel lover perked up.

You don't have to know the history of Casa Sersale to appreciate the magic it holds when you step inside its oversized, ornate doors. But, to know the history gives context to why the villa is as authentic and luxurious as they come. Casa Sersale is the family home of the Sersale Family. Since 1951, the Sersale Family has owned what is often called the chicest hotel in the world, Le Sirenuse.

Iconic Le Sirenuse celebrated its 70th Anniversary last week, and to mark the special occasion I want to pay tribute to the interior design and world-class hospitality the Sersale's are known for by sharing a rarely seen glimpse into their home, which is available to rent. Instead of writing in depth about the villa or our stay, as I typically do, I will let the photos I took speak for themselves.

What I will say is this… Each room in the airy two-story villa has a story to tell thanks to the Sersales' passion for travel. While Positano character and traditions are the home's foundation, Middle Eastern and Asian influences are woven throughout. The walls are adorned with tapestries and curated art collections, while locally crafted hand-painted tiles and vintage Turkish rugs create beautiful juxtaposition on the floor. With antique furnishings, lush climbing plants and eclectic designs, it can be hard to know where to look, until you remember why you traveled to the Amalfi Coast, and your eyes shift to the shimmering sea. Two terraces that run the length of the home (one boasting a dreamy outdoor shower!) make for the perfect place to take in the aforementioned sunset before making your way to Le Sirenuse for a candlelit dinner at La Sponda. This is Positano at its finest.
